Qutoe:Key is Just Win!!

lol, easier said than done. Haha, but so so true.

OH, and as for the whole 4-0 team beats 13-0 team thing.....Thats hard for me to say, so many factors could come into play you know, 13-0 team has an off night countless others. Its just that all the sports I play, tourny's I enter, its always been a win/loss system. So when I look at the rankings and see a 4-0 over a 13-0 team. I automatically say thats not right, how in the world?!?!? lol. :) Not much we can do about it this season, so im just going to have to deal with it. :( But I'll look forward to next season

No doubt that i like IGames leagues and ladders because they are usually filled with casual gamers and the occasional "pro" gamers will come in and "spoil" it. But Devastation will have to play more than just 4 matches to be invited to the finals.

The key is to have fun and hopefully all the extra play will lead to improvement and a chance to beat them next time. There is a lot of luck involved in any game so worrying to death the results of 1 week (and quiting) is a little out of hand. The key to being successful in anything is showing up. Most ppl just can't be bothered to even show up. And the main goal of game nights is to have some fun and make some new friends, build some rivalries, etc.

XG has been battling the Flying Hellfish for the past 3 years in various BF games. We put them out of the playoffs last year to win 2nd place overall and this past week we were 1 and 2 they beat us by 13 tickets and knocked us back to 6th place. Its just the way things work out. If we win next week against any quality opponent, we'll be back in the hunt.

lol .... this exactly what CZ did in COD2 ... with the CAL-I players ... Verb I think. Dev will win the ladder ... CPL CAL-I ... they are good.

COD2 CZ played one day (1 week in week 3 I think) went undefeated ... went to first. Did not play another week or match until loon posted the 12 game (or what ever limit in week 7) minimun to make the play-offs. They then played there second week ... made the minimum ... still undefeated. And cruised into the playoffs. (showed up 2 weeks)

I think the quote was ... 'Video Cards ... ya!'

I am not complaining ... they have the talent and played within the rules.

If there are good prizes ... the causal gamer does not stand a chance at winning them.

But ... has a chance at winning random weekly lottery drawnings.

So ... I think if we centers are to make money by bringing in casual players week after week ... the top prizes need to be toned down ... and a weekly give-away increased.

We should definitely be focused on tweaking the Game Nights / Ladders to drive as much revenue to the centers as possible.

I also meant to say that...

It seems things have been running smoother than ever and I think the Game Night Committee members all deserve big thanks from us all. Martin, Rike, Brandon, Ross, Chad, Shani, Gelder and Ryan have been doing a great job. Of course there are things to improve upon which is why this thread has started. Hopefully its just fine tuning.

Regarding prizes, it would be great to know what you guys would

a) Like
b) Love
c) Dream of having.

for prizes and giveaways throughout each season. Jeff, kim and myself will do our best to bring in what is needed to maximize your revenue.

I've been thinking we need stuff that is more casual gamer friendly for weekly prizes. Pizza, Sodas, Energy Drinks for weekly prizes. Stuff that is smaller but allows more winners. Having big prizes is great tho. Nothing gets players who think they have a shot fired up more than big prizes. But once they lose a few...

Also, i mentioned using a formula to determine if a team participated enough to play in the finals. I figure only teams that have more games than 1/2 the average # of games played should be eligible. So, say 50 teams play a total of 1000 matches. So the average is 20 matchs, then a minimum of 10 is required. If we leave it a formula of some kind, then the minimum amount is an unknown so teams will feel the need to play more just to be sure they get in.

Do you think the unknown facter would be a problem? What if a team played once per night, but still did not make it?

Hence the final rule! Admins can make new rules and decisions to ensure fun and fair play.
Hence the final rule! Admins can make new rules and decisions to ensure fun and fair play.
Actually the rules need to be in place prior to the kickoff of any ladder. And admins need to enforce said rules ... and wing it when situations occur that are not covered in the pre-existing rules.

I think we are trying to 'tweak' the existing rules ...

Issues to be addressed:

1.) Scoring ... is ELO the way to go?
2.) Ringers takings top prizes.

I think we all agree that we centers want casual players showing up week after week to play/pay in our centers.

The problem is ... casual gamers are not great players. And losing is not fun.

Possible solutions:

1.) More and better random weekly give-aways ... to reward casual gamers.
2.) Handi-capping either thru scoring system or skill segregation so that players of all skill level have a fair playing field.
3.) Match scheduling to pair similar skill level teams.

It would be nice to have 2 seperate ladder skill levels to play in ... an 'open' and a 'pro' division. Slightly better prizes for the 'pro' side. So teams can choose or be assigned to ladders of similar skill level.

However I'm not sure we have a level of participation to have two divisions?

So that would leave scoring tweaks and handicapping to consider.

The basic point system ... 3/1 for win/loss ... would at least make the CAL-I teams play more in the ladder. Would this discougage them from taking the main prizes? I don't think so ... I still think they will play the minimum to make the playoffs and grab the '7800' vid-cards are whatever.

And handicapping would be difficult to implement .. for some of the same reasons ELO does not work ... no establish team history to base handicap on.

Finally .... transistioning the ladders to a ladder 'rung' system may help. A ladder system similar to what TWL uses. Where you can only challenge a certain number of postions on the ladder. This would segregate play by matching teams with similar skill level to play each week ... hopefully making the matches more fun for all teams. The better teams will migrate to the top of the ladder and would mostly play the better teams. And the weaker teams will have to play thru the weaker teams to fight thier way up the ladder.

The point of admins making their own call, is to still reward a team that only play 8 matches (1 each week) yet the minimum determined to play in the finals is 10 matches, we can decide as a group to allow that team to play.

In all honestly, if we want easy and fair, we just need to go back to a league format when we have a large # of teams registered and do 2 matches a night.

Again ... I don't think the admins should be making/changing/modifying rules on the fly.

Maybe the rule should have been a minimum number of weeks played vice minimum number of games played.

What is the current forumla for the ELO system?

Maybe we can limit the effect of any one match?

We added that rule to all the current ladders simply because new things arise in each different game and then players try to make the current rules fit the situation that suits them. If you look at AOE3 for example at the bottom you will see...

Rule Changes: Throughout the course of the event, rules can be changed to ensure that the event runs smoothly. Players are responsible for checking the rules page for any rules change. If the rules page is not updated, check with an admin to confirm of any rules change.
