We've been over this question within our own center over and over. How do we get the local kids to compete and have fun? How do have competitions without Pros showing up and scaring off all the kids that just play for fun? The undeniable truth is that you can't have big prizes if you want "just for fun". You can change the rules all you want, if you make the stakes high, capable competition will show up. The difference between professional players and the kids that just want to have fun is that the pro does it for profit.

Take out the profit and there is no pro. Put $400-$500 graphics cards at stake and no one is going to be playing "just for fun".

Hey I just got this great idea.. If your team keeps losing because of these so-called "pro" players in the ladder then just tell your team they need to practice more!

If they practice more then you make more money. Win-win for everyone. We should aim for high ticket prizes so we get some more pros to play in the ladder. We could try offering $10,000+ grand prizes or like a set of all new Alienware computers (whatever is easier to aquire).. Then pros will come to our centers to play and you will be packed with spectators that will spend a lot of money. I think I am on to something here..

This is a little off topic but what are the exact dates of the league "finals"? So I can schedule them off of work.

8 weeks is a long season, is there any reason we can run an amateur and a pro ladder at the same time? We have three teams in the top 10 right now and they are all having a blast. However we have a couple other teams that would probably play in the ladder but they know our three better teams are playing so they don't wish to show up and get creamed every week.

The other possibility is that for the future as we develop the new Gamers Tour then we can start keeping track of gamer's ranks and fit them into appropriate groups. This would act like a golf handicap.

I know that many of you argue that people just need to show up and have fun, but it is not fun to show up and get 16-0 by a good team if you are casual gamer. You can also argue that it is good "practice" but if they are casual gamers the point is that they do not want to practice.

Casual gamers want to play against other casual gamers. When you play enough that you move past the casual gamer status then you should be in a semi-pro division or something higher.

I know there isn't a $200,000 prize, but the participation in this ladder shows that players just like to compete. People just like to see their names in lights and people like to win. That is human nature. I would like to see someone take a team through 8 full weeks of a ladder and lose every single match and still say they had fun.

Tracking players won't do you any good, there will always be "new" pros to show up if the prizes are there. The solution is simple, if you want to have a ladder full of amateurs, you need to only offer low-value promotional prizes. If you put up $400 video cards someone's gonna come take em. No pro team is gonna waste their time on an 8 week ladder just for some tshirts and copies of HL2

Regarding prizes, it would be great to know what you guys would

    a) Like
    b) Love
    c) Dream of having.

for prizes and giveaways throughout each season. Jeff, kim and myself will do our best to bring in what is needed to maximize your revenue.[/QUOTE]

now, i know im just a gamer for the center, but is it just me or did the prizes for CS Source seem kind of weak this season? i know youre probably thinking,"hes just saying this cause they want more", but its fine that you give us anything at all its just the fact that i look at the other games(with nowhere near as many teams as CS Source had) is getting processors for weekly drawings? i talked to someone from XG and they mentioned to me that their team didnt participate this season because there wasnt anything special being given away. i can probably expect the same reason from devastation. basically my input here is, up the prizes some. it gives us gamers more of a reason to come in and game every week, knowing that "Hey! if we keep winning and end up placing first for this league we will get some kickass stuff!!"

well i love igames and i hope you take this to heart.

Can single players join, or do you have to have a team?

Go to a local iGames center, and sign up with that center if they are part of the tour. Most centers will get the player on a team to play.

It was preseason this week (and next). So Standings won't be available until the season begins in earnest on the 26th.

    Admin's Watching Over

I was wondering if the igames admins are willing to watch each match in progress because I play in the game night matches and ive seen too many suspicious acts towards toggling (Hacks). I will point out one team that i belive could be toggling, Ice-A team. In a de_dust2 match it seemed that only when we requested the admin to spectate the Ice-A team became extremely less talented, which as well happened with the de_prodigy match. All of the Ice-A members were in the server saying "ready" to begin, but as they saw the igames admin join the game, 3 members left immediately. After about 5 minutes later they came back and seemed very less skilled. They did not report any computer problemsat all. I know i may seem like the complaining type but I Just would like to see the matches more secure because i know the prizes are well worth winning.

Huh? I can't comment on ICE's team, but I doubt they would be running hacks since playing at the game centers should level the field without hacks.... What I was going to ask was to get more competition into the ladder. My guys are 10-0 at the moment, leading the ladder, but any other night they are playing WoW. .. They really only play CS:S on wednesdays for the ladder. :-D I know other centers could put together some teams for more competition... :)
