Farcry. Awesome graphics, immense draw distance, great long range gun play,
holy cow if you're saying these ancient games you must be playing on a PII.

Far Cry as well. Only a few of the gamers here were trying it (those in the know are SO into it), so when I held my first LAN party on Saturday, I had them all play a few rounds.

I wish I could have charged a dollar for every time I heard someone yell ?this is so cool!!?.

I will admit that the original maps were getting old, but now that the new maps are out it's great once again. Crytek is currently working with the backing of EA games on a new project. I can't wait for details on that.
It's the most popular FPS because it IS easy. If it wasn't easy, then everyone would give up.

Why can I not get kids hooked onto Battlefield Vietnam or Desert Combat? Those games require a higher level of communication, while boasting a true team spirit. fy_pool_day is hardly a team map. neither is fy_Iceworld, or even scoutzknivez. I'm not going to argue that there may be maps that people play professionally (cpl_mill_fire), but the majority of CS players are kids that dont feel like trying a different game, because they can't use their 'l33t skillz' in an assault map in UT2004.
Bingo! This is a common dispute at wired it usually comes down to the CS kids getting mad, yelling curses and getting warnings for language. Mean while us more sophisticated BattleFeild players just laugh. :D I mean come on if you have to resort to cursing your opponent you already lost.

Now this is my kinda GCO. UT original is great, its what hooked me onto the whole UT series, UT2003 sucked though, but with Assault being being back in UT2004, I'm a happy camper once again

Mine has to be the Original tribes, followed by Deus Ex.

Nothing compares to the fun of ambushing someone from above with a explosive frisbee launcher =^_^=

Deus Ex was a great single player game with a lot of depth and storytelling that you just dont see nowadays... :(

Deus Ex is by far my favorite game of all time, let alone FPS!
The replayability is outstanding...

...and don't even get me started on the sequel. It's a shame how they messed up the outstanding gameplay of the first.

Original Tribes was outstanding. SO many tactical and strategic choices available in a ctf game.

CoD: UO with AWE mod is also excellent. The mod allows for tripwires, offscreen mortar fire, incoming bombers that shake your world, and a ton of ambient sound that really put you in a war zone.

For current games, CoD 2 and BF 2142 are both fairly good but I hesitate to really rank them highly. Prey, on the other hand, is a really fun, crazy DM game.

Gosh I'm so surprised so many others like FarCry as well, but yea that is also my favorite, at least until Crysis comes out. ;P Incredibly fun multiplayer, beautiful graphics, fun weapons, very immersive, etc.

Yha the sequel was a major disapointment. Then they took the third one and made it a generic FPS with a dumb story and slaped the name Snowblind on it...

My Favorite First Person Shooter Game is Definitely BF2

I have played a number of FPS games.  I really enjoyed Medal of Honor and COD.  I liked the freeze tag in Medal of Honor.  Call of Duty graphics and audio are great.  Both games are very good.  But, what puts BF2 above the rest are:

o  Built in unit organization with the squads.

o  A commander with his special assets.

o  Integrated communications with:
      -  squad members can only talk to members of their own squad
      -  the commander can only talk to the squad leaders

o  It is a combined arms fight with infantry, armor, artillery, and aviation.

o  Players can specialize their role (duty position/kit) to support their squad.
Example:  Assault, AT, Sniper, Spec Ops, Engineer, Medic, Support

The list continues........................................

Re:

For me, hands down UT games.  The are always well thought out, pretty well balanced and push the new games foward in their thinking.

The #1 best feature for UT is plain and simple, modability.  Anyone can create weapons and mods and do it realitvely easily.  The engines are incredibly flexible..examples America's Army, GoW, Bioshock, Red Orchestra, etc...not to mention all of the great community mods and maps that are spit out by the 1000s from the genearl UT community.

It is very difficult to get bored with UT.  If one game type or mod gets old, you have 100s of new ones to pick from.

And I will firmly disagree with the statements about counterstrike.  The two games I play the most are UT and CSS.  CSS does not even come close to the level of UT in terms of skill levels required.  I don't generally rate myself at the games I play because I play for pure simple fun, but most say I am very good at both games.  The point of that statement is that I am quite familiar with both games and how to play them well.  With that said, UT requires far more skill than CSS.  It took me a week or two to get the general hang of CSS, it took 6 months to get even slightly good at the UT games.

This is all about opinions, so I thought I would share mine Big Smile
